Eleven-year-old Tomie Mickai Williams, of Kansas City, Missouri, will have quite a story to tell when he returns to school this fall.
Tomie is a child author who wrote his first book, "Mighty Boy," last year when he was 10 years old. Tomie said he wants Mighty Boy to be a three-part series. This summer, he started writing, "Mighty Boy, Book 2 - SuperHero Life."
Max is the main character in the Mighty Boy series. Max and his friends touched a giant red crystal on an alien spaceship. The crystal gave them various superpowers, and the book highlights the adventures of Max and his friends.
"People like the book," said Tomie. "It's fun to hear them say they want to read it again and again."
Tomie's dad, Brian Williams, self-published his son's book last fall. It's available onLuLu.com and Amazon.com. Tomie also has a Facebook page for his book.
Last year, Tomie attended Truman Middle School. The school purchased a copy and put it in the school library so other students can read it.
Tomie's mom, Nikki, had a book signing for her son at her salon, Nikki's Beauty and Barber Salon.
"People ask me what I did to have a child who became an author at 10 years old," said Nikki Williams. "My husband and I just spend time with our kids, and when we see that they are interested in something we help them find out about it and give it a try."
For book two, Tomie's younger brother, 8-year-old Nilan, is helping. Nilan will illustrate the book.
Tomie said he enjoys being an author but when he grows up he wants to be an engineer. He enjoys robots.
Book sales are going well. Tomie said he plans to use the money to buy a new computer to finish writing the series. He also wants to save some of the money to go to college.
