KC man charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, man faces a murder charge for the shooting death of his wife on Sunday in a Northeast Kansas City, Missouri, house.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Carlos Velazquez, 34, with second degree murder and armed criminal action.

Velazquez's father, Miguel, told police he was in his home about 9:30 p.m. Sunday when he heard gunshots, according to a court document.

Miguel Velazquez said his son, Carlos, was banging on his door.

The two live next door to one another in the 3700 block of East Seventh Street.

Carlos was outside the house crying and repeatedly yelling, "Kill me, kill me please. I killed my baby," according to a court document.

Miguel Velazquez went next door and into his son's house.

He found the couple's two children awake in their beds, according to the court document. Velazquez told the children to stay in their beds.

He found Anna Velazquez dead on the bedroom floor.

Investigators found the door damaged where Anna Velazquez was found, the court document states.

Multiple shell casings from a 9mm Glock 17 were found in the bedroom.

Carlos Velazquez told police he had been drinking Sunday night while he cooked food on a grill.

He said the last thing he remembered was grilling ribs and then being in a police department patrol wagon, according to the court document.

A judge set Carlos Velazquez's bond at $200,000, cash-only.
