KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After President-elect Joe Biden officially becomes president, a Kansas City, Missouri, native will perform at a virtual inauguration party.

AY Young, the founder of Battery Tour, said he prerecorded a concert as part of the streaming event hosted by a group called Clean Energy For Biden. Train, Michael Franti, Akon and other musicians will also be participating.

“I was nervous, but also it was like dude, I’m settling in to being this young leader,” Young admitted.

Part of the reason Young is performing Wednesday is that the United Nations named him one of its 17 Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals.

“I’m trying to achieve the global goals of the world and I’m trying to plug in every facet in humanity here in the USA so we can together achieve the global goals. For me, I was like, I have the president on my list, so I was like it’s about time,” Young said.

He hopes to introduce Biden to his Battery Tour organization during his performance. Battery Tour promotes clean energy by storing renewable energy in batteries. Young uses the batteries to provide electricity at concerts and other performances.

Over the next year, Young will record a song about each of the 17 UN sustainable development goals. He also plans on supporting his hometown with a song project he’s calling “Homeland.”

“I feel like I don’t fully represent KC yet,” Young said. “I want all of KC to know who I am so I’m on this mission to get Kansas City plugged in to what I’m doing and really feel that this city is behind me. I’m trying to earn that.”

A limited number of tickets to watch the Clean Energy for Biden inauguration ball streaming event are available for purchase online.
