Police are investigating two separate homicides, one just before 11:30 p.m. at 41st & Mill, a second after 2:00 a.m. at 57th & Michigan.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., homicide detectives were called to 41st & Mill on a shots fired call. Officers located a man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

The victim was identified as Derrick Jones, 25, of Kansas City, Missouri.

The man who reported he heard gunshots told 41 Action News he also spotted a vehicle fleeing the scene.

“As I was coming out the door I heard another gun shot and then saw a white SUV head south and through the parking lot and then a couple guys jump over the wall over here and headed different directions so I called 911 just reporting gun shots cause I didn’t know what was going on,” said Jesse Waugh.

About three hours later officers responded to a shots fired call at 57th & Michigan. Just before 2:30 a.m., police located a man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital and passed away several hours later.

The victim was identified as Charles Bradford, 41, of Kansas City, Missouri.
