KANSAS CITY, Mo. — When Kansas City launched its streetcar service in May 2016, it did so with a fleet of four streetcars.
Three years and millions of riders later, the service will welcome its sixth streetcar later this month.
The streetcars are numbered 801, 802, 803, 804, 805 and 806.
Streetcars 805 and 806 are the two new streetcars this summer, which are delivered via rail from a plant in Houston. No. 806 will arrive the week of Aug. 26.
“The expansion of our fleet from four to six streetcars will support increased service frequencies and capacity in order to respond to the existing demand,” KC Streetcar Authority Executive Director Tom Gerend said in a news release Thursday.
Editor's note: KC Streetcar initially said the newest streetcar would arrive on Aug. 19. A longer shipping duration pushed the date back to the week of Aug. 26. This story has been updated to reflect the change.
