Many locations in the Kansas City metro experienced brief shutdowns Thursday afternoon when portions of the area were placed under severe weather warnings for tornadoes and thunderstorms.
41 Action News corresponded with representatives from many of these entities throughout the afternoon to learn what they were doing to keep patrons, passengers and players safe.
Public transportation
Bus service in some areas of the city was shut down around 4:40 p.m., but some buses resumed about ten minutes later. Generally, in severe weather situations, the decision to stop or evacuate an individual vehicle is left to the driver's judgment.

Kauffman Stadium
As of 4:30 p.m., the Royals game against the Chicago White Sox was scheduled to take place as previously planned; team management reportedly consulted with both the Sox and MLB before making this decision. If inclement weather were to make the stadium unsafe, umpires would have the power to call off the game and order players to take shelter in a safer location.

Kansas City International Airport
KCI briefly shut down and evacuated the passengers waiting inside to a downstairs garage area, but operations had resumed mostly as normal by 4:30 p.m. Both incoming and outgoing flights will correspond with air traffic control to ensure safe takeoff and landing; this may mean travel delays throughout the evening.
