KCI, airports nationwide amping up security screening of electronics

Travelers at Kansas City International Airport are dealing with new TSA security screening rules for electronic devices.

Passengers have always been asked to remove laptops for screening. TSA rules that went into effect on Wednesday require passengers to remove all electronic devices that are bigger than cellphones, such as tablets and electronic readers.

Passengers are getting accustomed to the new rules.

Larry Lux, a frequent traveler at KCI, said he served in the military and knows how electronic devices can be used to detonate bombs. He supports the new security measures.

Some passengers said the extra time it would take might be inconvenient, but they're willing to endure it if it means improved safety.

TSA executives said TSA pre-check passengers are exempt from the new electronic screening rules.
