KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Passengers getting their boarding passes for Southwest Airlines flights at KCI Wednesday morning said they're not fearful of flying after a passenger died on a flight Tuesday.

The plane flying from New York City to Dallas experienced engine failure. Passengers said debris hit the airplane, breaking one of the windows. A passenger inside the plane died in the chaos.

"I used to be an aircraft mechanic at one time. They're well maintained, planes are. So I don't know what happened. Just a freak accident," said Clark Huffer, who was heading to Sacramento Wednesday morning.

Passengers said they didn't notice any difference in mood at KCI or any increased anxiety.

"I'm putting it in God's hands. What will be, will be. It'll be good. Southwest has always been good to me," said Kathy Keller before boarding a flight to San Diego.

Another passenger on the same flight agreed.

"Whatever happens, happens. It's only in one person's hands, absolutely," said Kim Satz.

Most passengers gave Southwest Airlines credit for handling this tragedy and said they take confidence in the airline's successful track record.

"I've been flying for 25 years and I've never seen any problems. So it doesn't bother me a bit," said Timothy Brown.

The plane involved in the deadly flight flew in and out of KCI most recently on April 10.
