KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two days after Icelandair announced that it was ending its transatlantic flights from Kansas City International Airport to Iceland, a tour operator announced two new nonstop flights to Mexico.
Vacation Express will begin flights from KCI to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta beginning in 2020.
“We are excited about adding more flights from Kansas City; we know Puerto Vallarta will become as popular a destination this winter as Cancun,” Vacation Express Vice President of Sales and Marketing Kevin Hernandez said in a statement.
The airline and tour operator already has seasonal nonstop service from KCI to Punta Cana, Domincan Republic.
Service to Cancun will run on Sundays from Feb. 16 to April 5, 2020, and Saturdays from May 23 to Aug. 1, 2020,
Service to Puerto Vallarta will run on Sundays from Feb. 16 to March 15, 2020, and May 24, to Aug. 2, 2020.
“The demand for air travel from Kansas City to Mexico’s top leisure destinations is incredibly strong,” Pat Klein, director of the Kansas City, Missouri, Aviation Department, said in a statement. “We are extremely thankful for Vacation Express’ commitment to expanding their flight schedule from Kansas City International Airport.”
The flights to Mexico, operated by VivaAerobus or Volaris, will be part of six-night travel packages offered by Vacation Express, but air-only service will be available as well.
Vacation Express, an Atlanta-based service that is part of the Toronto-based Sunwing Travel Group, service to Punta Cana, which started in February 2018, will run on Fridays from May 22 to July 31, 2020.
Flights to the Dominican Republic are operated by Miami Air International.
