After a week of unprecedented violence in Kansas City, Kansas, police and city leaders issued a call for action.

The city had four homicides in one week. The murder rate is up to 28, compared to 22 at this time last year.

Deputy Chief Tyrone Garner said the police department needs the community’s help in order to solve crime.

“We’re only as good as the information you get from the community. Your police department is only as good as the support it gets from the community. We can’t do this job alone, we need the community’s help to bring these individuals to justice,” Garner pleaded.

LaVeda Davis lost two people she loved to gun violence this week.

Davis was one of dozens to attend a community candlelight vigil Saturday.

“This is extremely hard,” Davis said. “I feel hurt. And I feel just a great amount of pain.”

Anyone with information on any crime are urged to call the TIPS hotline at 474-TIPS.
