KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The fight to reverse the recent name change of Paseo Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri, has been assigned to the City Council’s Finance and Governance Committee.
A petition to change Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard back to The Paseo was certified last week by the City Clerk’s office.
The committee will consider the petition at its next meeting Wednesday.
From there, it would advance to the full City Council before a decision would have to be made about whether to include the name change reversal on the August or November ballot.
The City Council voted to rename the street in honor of Dr. King in January.
The change officially took place in late February with the installation of new signage.
The Paseo, which was built during the late 19th century, took its former name from Mexico City’s famed Paseo de la Reforma.
