KANSAS CITY, Mo. — All Kansas City, Missouri, City Council committee meetings scheduled to be held on Inauguration Day were canceled, according to city officials.

A spokesperson for Mayor Quinton Lucas said that “out of an abundance of caution” and to avoid scheduling conflicts with the inauguration, committee chairs were given the option to cancel their meetings for the week.

City Clerk Marilyn Sanders confirmed that all meetings scheduled for Wednesday have been canceled. The agendas for those meetings will be moved to next week.

Most council committees hold their meetings on Wednesdays in council chambers at City Hall.

Other government buildings will be closed Wednesday as a precaution, including several buildings at the Kansas Capitol Complex.

The closures come amid fears of more protests following the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
