KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department is holding a back-to-school immunization clinic outside its normal hours on Saturday.
Though the department isn't usually open on weekends, it planned this special clinic to help families who can't get there during the week.
The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2400 Troost Ave.
Immunization staff will also stay late on Monday, Aug. 12, until 6 p.m., to give parents another opportunity to get there.
The health department said patients need to bring the following items to be vaccinated:
- Photo ID
- Insurance cards
- Medicaid cards
- Shot record
- Written consent if someone other than the child's parent brings them
Vaccinations are free for KCMO children without health insurance, who are underinsured or eligible for Medicaid.
Fees for children who don't live in Kansas City, Missouri, are $10 for the first child and $5 for any additional child from the same family.
Health department officials ask that people be patient, as they expect a large turnout.
“We expect to see a rush of families whose kids still need vaccinations to start school. We ask for patience as we try to meet all the needs," said Tiffany Wilkinson, division manager of Communicable Disease Prevention and Public Health Preparedness.
The health department said families who come Saturday can enter a raffle to win back-to-school prizes. The University of Kansas will also be conducting a survey in which participants are entered to win one of four iPads.
