KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Family and friends of one of the latest Kansas City, Missouri, homicide victims held a fundraiser Saturday in hopes of being able to provide a proper burial.
Daisy Martinez, 19, was killed Wednesday following an event that celebrated Mexican Independence Day.
Franchesca Salas, Martinez’s aunt, said Martinez graduated high school last year and was preparing to go to college.
“She was a good kid,” Salas said. “She was one of the good kids. Wrong place, wrong time.”
Every parent can feel the pain of Martinez’s death, according to Salas.
“It just totally hits different when it's a child,” Salas said, “an innocent child who is a teenager and wanted to go out with their friends, it just... It hits different.”
The fundraiser took place at Advanced Auto Parts on Independence Avenue.
