KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Public Works crews in Kansas City, Missouri, used Monday's winter weather as a dress rehearsal for the months ahead.
"It gives our crews a chance to practice their routes, a chance to practice the salt rotation and all of that," Maggie Green, KCMO Public Works' public information officer, said. "We are always surprised when its 90 degrees a couple of days before and then it snows here in Kansas City. This is a great practice round for our team."
Crews spent the morning and afternoon on Monday putting salt on the roads. Their main focus is bridges, as they get slick and can freeze quickly. Crews went out again around 2 p.m. to re-salt those areas before the evening commute.
The city has about 30,000 tons of salt across its five salt domes.
Crews will be back out on Tuesday morning.
