KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, police detective who faces two felony charges in the December 2019 shooting of Cameron Lamb pleaded not guilty Tuesday during his initial court hearing.
Eric DeValkenaere appeared at the hearing with his attorney by video conference. He pleaded not guilty to one count each of involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.
DeValkenaere, 41, was charged in Jackson County last week after a grand jury handed down an indictment against him.
Documents released on Friday revealed the grand jury found “probable cause to believe that Eric DeValkenaere recklessly caused the death of Cameron Lamb.”
DeValkenaere posted bond after self-surrendering last week. He is currently suspended from the police force.
His next hearing was set for July 30.
