KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The deadly gun violence continues in Kansas City, Missouri, as the city's 97th homicide was reported barely halfway through the year.
A man was found shot to death just after 10 p.m. on Thursday at a gas station near East 35th Street and Prospect Avenue.
There is no information on what led to the shooting and the victim's name has not released, but police arrested one man at the scene, which had drawn a large crowd as emergency workers arrived.
"We don't want there to be homicides and shootings. We're here trying to bring justice for this family, this young man that has died at this gas station tonight and it's frustrating," KCPD Sergeant Jake Becchina said. "The community should be fired up to help us, and we're not exactly seeing that right now."
The record for homicides in a calendar year in Kansas City is 153 in 1993, according to KCPD data.
Currently, KCMO is on pace for nearly 193 homicides in 2020, which would shatter the previous record.
