KCPD investigating fatal crash near I-435, Raytown Road

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 435 northbound near Raytown Road.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m., when two motorcycles were traveling north on the road, going about 80-90 miles per hour, according to KCPD.

One of the drivers, for unknown reasons, lost control and went off the roadway to the left.

The black Kawasaki ZX motorcycle hit the median and the driver — identified as Patrick D. Murphy, 27, of Buckner, Missouri — was ejected.

Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two left lanes were closed for nearly 3 hours, reopening around 9:15 p.m.
