KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police are working to help a woman who went out of her way to help an officer.
Police tweeted the story on Friday.
According to the department, a woman called who wanted to help the officer that was shot on July 2.
Officers told the woman he was well taken care of but his family would be happy to receive gas station or grocery store gift cards.
The woman told police that she had a daughter murdered in 2012 and was grateful for the detectives who worked that case and were like lifelines to her family.
KCPD said the woman went on to explain she was laid off due to COVID-19 and has been struggling with bills but last week found $1 in a parking lot and turned it into $100 with a lottery ticket.
The tweet went on to explain that the woman's 12-year-old daughter asked if they could give the money to the officer who was shot and she agreed.
KCPD said they urged the woman to keep the money but she refused and wanted police to know they were supported.
The woman did not leave her name and her number did not have an ID so they worked to track her down to thank her for her kindness.
Eventually, police learned the woman's name was Shetara and they created a GoFundMe page to try and help her with her bills through COVID-19 as a thank you for giving everything she had to an officer in need.
