KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A police spokesperson in Kansas City, Missouri, said one person died and two others were hurt after a shooting near 51st Street and Prospect Avenue late Monday night.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Noella Bartley, of Kansas City, Missouri.

Police have not arrested any suspects, nor is there a description of a possible suspect to share publicly.

Police dispatched officers to 51st Street and Wabash Avenue at 10:15 p.m. Monday to investigate shots fired. Officers found a car one block east on Prospect Avenue with three people inside who had all been shot.

The spokesperson said one person died at the scene. The other two shooting victims are in the hospital. One is in serious condition, the other stable, according to police. The spokesperson didn't say if the victims are men or women.

In a blog post just Monday, police Chief Rick Smith discussed ending the cycle of violence in Kansas City. He urged people to tell police if they know a conflict is brewing and could turn violent. He wrote alerting police can save lives, but he stressed police officers need the public's help to accomplish that goal.

KCPD partners with the group "CrimeReports" to map crimes around the city. According to data from the website, over the past six months there have been no other homicides reported within ten blocks of 51st Street and Prospect Avenue. Although police have responded to nearly 50 assaults and robberies in the neighborhood during the same time frame.
