KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The person making decisions for your child's school could soon change.

The Kansas City Public School District is redrawing boundaries and electing a new board.

Starting in April 2019, the KCPS board will be reduced from nine to seven members, which means the sub-district boundaries have to be redrawn. This will bring the school board in line with state law.

All KCPS school board members are also up for re-election.

John Fierro has been on the school board for two years.

"All of us will be up for re-election in April 2019," said Fierro.

Last week, district Superintendent Mark Bedell sent out automatic phone calls followed by an email to district parents, asking for their participation in a series of meeting to redraw the sub-district boundaries.

"It's very important that our parents and stakeholders are engaged in this process," said Natalie Allen, KCPS Chief of Staff, Communications and Community Engagement.

The Kansas City Election Board's consultants will give a public presentation outlining the options Wednesday night at the board of education building located at 2901 Troost Ave.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
