KSHB-TV, Kansas City's 41 Action News Station, has won three prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
KSHB was honored in the Continuing Coverage and News Series categories for a project entitled “Suicide Awareness in Schools Law.” Morning show anchor Patrick Fazio profiled Cathy Housh, a Kansas City area mother who lost her daughter to suicide. Housh credits Fazio’s reporting for a new law that requires suicide awareness training for teachers in Kansas.
41 Action News also was honored in the Sports Reporting category for a story by reporter Josh Helmuth. “Chase's Drive” highlighted Chase Wetterow, who was critically injured in a car accident and told he may never walk again. However, following the drive that nearly ended his life, his own drive proved to be much stronger. Chase led his football team to its first playoff win in school history, and he became a state-qualifier in the javelin.

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has awarded regional Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. The award recognizes outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. KSHB is part of Region 5, which consists of stations in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. All of the regional winners advance for consideration for a national Murrow Award.
