KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team landed safely in San Jose, California, Sunday night following an engine failure shortly after takeoff.

KU Athletics issued a statement Sunday regarding the return flight from the team’s game against Stanford.

“The pilot immediately contacted the San Jose Airport where we returned and made a safe landing,” KU said in the statement. “We are grateful to the pilots and the entire flight crew of Swift Air.”

The Jayhawks will remain in San Jose overnight and “return to Lawrence once the plans have been finalized,” according to the statement.

The Jayhawks defeated the Cardinals 72-56.
