Police Chief Randy Wilson said he's received reports about drones flying around homes in Lake Lotawana. He said some fear being watched while they sunbathe.
"Honestly we have no way of knowing without actually physically handling the drone," said Wilson.
Just last week the Federal Aviation Administration instated new drone regulations. Including banning flying over people, the drone must be close enough for the controller to see it at all times.
This summer, Kansas passed a law stating drones could not be used to harass or stalk people, but Missouri has no restrictions on drones.
Wilson said he could file charges depending on the drone operator’s intent.
"We would consider potentially a trespass, potentially disorderly conduct; it would be very case-by-case driven," said Wilson.
Wilson said to contact police if you have spotted the drone or if you know who's flying it. Lake Lotawana Police can be reached at 816-578-4333.
