KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Northland lawn care and landscaping business owner is accused of taking thousands of dollars from customers and not doing any work.

John Cazzell, 71, of Kansas City, Missouri, is charged in Clay County Court with three counts of deceptive business practices and two counts of financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Cazzell is the owner of Four Seasons Lawn and Landscape.

According to court documents, a customer paid Cazzell more than $10,000 for lawn and landscaping work in 2017. The work was never done and Cazzell refused to refund the customer's money.

An elderly woman allegedly paid Cazzell $40,000 between January and March 2019 for lawn and landscaping work. But again, the work was never performed as Cazzell made multiple excuses about why he didn't do the work, court records said.

A second elderly woman also allegedly paid Cazell thousands of dollars in the summer of 2019 for lawn and landscaping work that was never done.

Cazzell, who has been the subject of multiple civil lawsuits in Kansas and Missouri during the last 25 years, is due back in court April 9 for a hearing.
