KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the second time in the last week, officials in the Lawrence, Kansas Public School District found a student in possession of a firearm while at school.
Tuesday’s report at Lawrence High School prompted Superintendent Anthony Lewis to call for families to have a broader discussion about school safety.
“While I appreciate the quick action of our school administrators, the support of local law enforcement, and the individuals who made us aware of both of these issues so they could be resolved safely, we need the community’s help,” Lewis wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. "Let’s come together for a serious discussion of how to address what has the potential to be a dangerous problem for our community.”
The student involved in Tuesday’s incident was disciplined, Lewis said in the post. The district also notified parents.
