KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Lawrence woman was arrested after she went to a bar and left her two young children inside a vehicle without heat as temperatures plunged overnight, police said.

Around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the Playerz Sports Bar at 1910 Haskell Ave. because a woman who had been removed from the bar was trying to get back in, Lawrence police spokesman Derrick Smith said.

Staff told the officers that the 26-year-old woman had been at the bar while her two children were left unattended inside a vehicle.

The woman had left the bar by the time police arrived, but officers spotted her vehicle near 19th Street and Haskell Avenue and stopped her.

Police determined the children, two and three years old, “were left alone in the vehicle without heat for a substantial amount of time” while she was at the bar, Smith said. The children were not injured in the incident.

The woman was arrested on counts of aggravated endangering a child and operating a vehicle under the influence. Police have not released the woman’s name.
