LEAWOOD, Kan. — Monday evening Leawood city leaders will review a proposal to help pay for the renovation of Ranchmart North shopping plaza with sales tax dollars.
The owners of the mall at 95th Street and Mission Road have proposed creating a community improvement district (CID). Sales tax from items sold within the district would increase by 1 percent. The developers hope to generate $13 million through the CID to help fund the $47 million mall upgrade.
City council members will review the plan during a work session at 6 p.m. Monday inside city hall.
Renovations to the plaza include a modernized look, more green space and a new two-story building with office and retail space.
The city council will not host public comment on the proposal during Monday’s stage of the process.
