LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — A 58-year-old Lee's Summit man died in a rollover crash on I-470 late Monday night after a second vehicle hit the back of his car and sent him into the median, according to the highway patrol crash report.
Carl Martin was headed south on I-470 just south of the I-70 and 40 Highway interchanges around 11:15 p.m. Monday when a second driver "overtook" his vehicle, a Missouri State Highway Patrol report said. Both vehicles then drove into the median, where Martin's vehicle flipped and ejected him. His vehicle then caught on fire, the report said.
Martin died at the scene.
The 41-year-old driver of the second vehicle was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The crash report did not indicate what might have caused the second driver to hit the back of Martin's vehicle.
There were no immediate charges pending in connection to the crash.
