KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The outcome of a closed-door session of the Lee’s Summit School District’s Board of Education Monday may have brought two sides closer to a resolution.
Following a back-and-forth this spring between the board and Superintendent Dr. Dennis Carpenter, the two parties agreed Monday to enter into mediation.
A timeline for the mediation wasn’t immediately available, though both parties say they want to start the process “as soon as possible.”
“The Board resolved to enter into a mediation with (Carpenter) for the purpose of addressing and improving the relationship between the Board, the Superintendent and staff of the school district,” the board said in a statement Tuesday.
The dispute comes amid Carpenter’s efforts to bring diversity training to district teachers and staff.
