KANSAS CITY, Kan. – It paid to shop at Legends Outlets in Kansas City, Kansas, this Black Friday. The outdoor mall is giving away $15,000 in prizes to 400 lucky shoppers throughout the day.

The first 100 people in line at the “prize machine” with at least $100 in Legends receipts from Friday can draw for a prize at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.  Everyone is guaranteed a prize, but grand prizes include a necklace and hundreds of dollars in gift certificates. The prize machine is near Dave & Buster’s.

Shoppers camped outside stores prior to their 6 a.m. opening Friday to officially kick off the holiday shopping season.

Alex Busche is the manager at the Eddie Bauer store at Legends. He said Black Friday is the store’s busiest day of the year. It offers doorbuster deals, giving shoppers discounts greater than what the employees receive.

He said the excitement of shoppers is what makes the long day fly by.

Connor Basnight was one of the first shoppers in line at the Nike store. The 21-year-old said he’s been shopping on Black Friday for years. He admitted to taking a strategic approach, combing through ads a month before Black Friday and planning which stores he wants to visit.

Experts with the group Finder predict Americans will spend more than $90 billion on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined this year.
