KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Liquor stores across the metro are getting ready for one of their busiest days of the year, and one local store hopes its new delivery app will make preparations even easier on its customers.

Andy Doohan, Mike's Wine and Spirits manager, said the business fought for the city to change its ordinance that required in-store transactions on alcohol.

"I was personally shocked that we hadn't had something like this in the city before," Doohan said. "So when we knew the opportunity was there, we wanted to jump all over it."

Doohan said the business has been working on its delivery app, which it soft launched in August. Just in time for Super Bowl LIV, the business is ready to launch it full time.

"We've kind of tested the waters for a few months to see what the interest is in Kansas City," Doohan said, "and frankly kind of figure out exactly what kinks we were going to have going into the new year."

The app shows what beer, wine and liquor the store has in stock. Customers can simply select what they want and check out.

Doohan said the same rules apply if customers were to buy it in the store.

"We still do card at the door, we cannot sell to you if you're intoxicated," Doohan said. "We follow all the normal steps that we would have to follow if you were to come in and shop at any of our three locations."

Doohan said the business can only do deliveries to a specific service area between State Line Road, 103rd Street, West Bannister Road and the Missouri River.

Kyle Meagher used the app Saturday night and said he plans to use it often.

"I've been to a couple other cities that have it like Chicago, and it was really handy," he said. "So it's good to have it here in Kansas City."

The business cannot deliver to Kansas.

It will be delivering on Super Bowl Sunday from noon to 11 p.m.
