LEAWOOD, Kan. — Families like the McGinnitys are usually at church on Sundays. But, this week was a little different.

They attend Church of the Resurrection in Leawood and worshiped at their dining room table.

“We put on our T-shirt and jeans, poured our coffee and then get are getting ready to do church online,” Sarah McGinnity said.

Church of the Resurrection, the largest church organization in the metro, made the decision on Friday to not have public worship services this weekend. On Saturday, they taped the service that will air during normal worship times.

Lead Pastor Adam Hamilton said they have never had to do this in the church's history.

"In the end, we felt like we needed to protect the health and safety of our people," Hamilton said. "Part of what I knew was people would show up because they have a deep faith and a conviction to be like, 'I will be at church no matter what.' They wouldn't be afraid."

Hamilton is focusing his service on the virus and the fear it has caused. He is calling it "Living Unafraid in the Face of a Pandemic."

Their service will be streamed online. For more, click here.
