KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A family grieved the loss of local rapper Mack Jones as they attended his funeral on Saturday.
Jones wasfound dead inside of a car last Saturday in Kansas City, Missouri, after going missing for several days.
It was an emotional funeral at GraceWay Church in Raytown as family remembered the 30-year-old.
Jones' dad, Jonathan, said it was a hard funeral to attend because it was the second funeral he's attended for a son in the past two years.
"It hurts to see a son go away, it really do hurt," he said.
Jones was a local rapper often known by his stage name, Smacc Turner.
His family claimed KCPD didn't do enough to find him when the family reported him as missing.
"Police didn't do nothing right away, it took a few days for them to make a move, that's what I didn't understand," the elder Jones said.
The family even went to the Board of Police Commissioner meeting on Tuesday to plead their case.
However, police said they did take action.
"I know that missing persons detectives were in touch with his family that next morning and they went to the police together, and they both agreed at that time that it did not meet the criteria on the telephone," Sgt. Jacob Becchina said.
Jones' death is one of the latest homicides in Kansas City.
"I just hope the violence stops. It's doing nothing but tearing down families," Jones' father said.
The family said they just want justice for their beloved son.
KCPD is looking for tips in the homicide case. If you have any information, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 816-474-8477.
A reward of $25,000 is available for a tip leading to an arrest.
