INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A local scout troop is camping out outside in Independence this weekend to help the Salvation Army Crossroads Shelter.

They call this weekend's events "Cold Hands, Warm Hearts."

Troop 161 is spending Friday-Sunday outside the shelter. The teens are camping out in what they call "survival shelter fashion".

On Saturday, scouts from around Jackson County will be collecting items to help the Salvation Army.

They are asking people to drop off essential everyday items someone might need.

Items will be accepted at the Salvation Army Crossroads Shelter, at 14700 E. Truman Road, Independence, Mo.
