A woman from Lee’s Summit says an iPhone case she recently purchased caused a painful skin reaction, and now she wants the company to recall the product.

Cheryl Ellis contacted 41 Action News to share her story, concerned that others will be injured by the cases.

Ellis says she bought one case for herself and three more to give as gifts last week. She thought the glittery cases would be popular, especially with her young niece.

Ellis noticed something wasn’t right on Sunday. She had just returned home when she felt something strange.

“Walked into the house and immediately I felt a burning, tingling sensation on this side, of my rear end. My phone was there,” said Ellis.

She went to the bathroom and looked to see what was wrong.

“I had a rectangular red welt, rash, burning… like a burn on my rear,” said Ellis.

She had purchased the cases branded LMNT by Audio Technology of New York Designs, listed as ATNY Designs on the packaging.

Ellis called the company to let them know what happened.

“Initial reaction was ‘well it couldn’t be our case because we haven’t had any problems,’” said Ellis.

She was told to return the product to the store she bought them from.

“I questioned that because I didn’t want them to just put them back out on the floor because these three are unused and have them resell them and have someone else hurt,” said Ellis.

41 Action News reached out the ATNY Designs and spoke to the same person Ellis did.

That person confirmed he spoke with Ellis and says the phone cases do not contain a chemical, but a mineral oil.

When asked if there had been any other complaints, he said no.

He went on to say he could not verify the product Ellis complained about was an ATNY Design product. However, their name is listed on the back of the phone case packaging. The person at ATNY Designs eventually hung up on us.
