A 55-year-old man is dead after a house fire near 37th St. and College Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Kansas City Fire Department's James Garrett says when first responders arrived, they found one person outside the home and were told someone else was inside.
When they entered the home, they found the body of a man in the back bedroom. Garrett says the man had made it outside the home when the fire started, but for unknown reasons he went back inside.
The man's identity has not yet been released.
Garrett says the home did not have working smoke detectors. The fire was contained to a singel home.
An investigation into what started the fire continues.
