14-year-old boy fatally shot Wednesday morning in 8300 block of Wayne Avenue

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating the deadly shooting of a teenage boy in the 8300 block of Wayne Avenue.

Officers were called to a shooting shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday and found a teen boy suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

He was declared deceased at the scene.

KCPD identified the victim Thursday as 14-year-old Derrick Thurman. He would have turned 15 next month.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
