KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is dead and four other people are injured following a rollover crash early Monday morning.
It happened just before 4 a.m. on 169 Highway south of Barry Road in the Northland.
Police said a Ford Fusion was northbound on 169 when it veered to the left, hitting the soft shoulder. Police said it went behind the guardrail and rolled into a wire barrier which prevented it from traveling into the southbound lanes.
The car rolled at least one time.
Five passengers (four men and one woman) were ejected from the vehicle.
Three of the men and the woman were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The fourth man died on the scene.
He was later identified as 33-year-old DeShaun T. Allen.
Police said one of the survivors remains in serious condition, but the other three are expected to live.
169 Highway was shut down in both directions, but opened northbound lanes just after 5:30 a.m. The southbound lanes reopened just before 7 a.m.
The car was being loaded onto a tow truck shortly after 6:30 a.m. It was to be taken to a police facility for further investigation once officers obtain a warrant.
Police said it is too soon to determine if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
