UPDATE: Lucius L. Dodson, 65, has been charged with aggravated domestic assault, armed criminal action and as a felon in possession of a firearm.

One woman is hurt after a shooting in the 5000 block of E. 41st Terrace on Saturday.

Officers were called to the scene at around 1:17p.m. The woman was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Lucius Dodson, the shooting suspect inside the home, refused to exit and was in a standoff with police for three and a half hours before taken into custody.

The woman told police Dodson shot her and she had gunshot wounds on her face near her chin and on the back of her left leg. She also had cuts on her hands, face and throat.

According to police, a witness heard two gunshots and the woman yelling for help, hanging out of the second story window of the residence. The witness went to help the woman, but Dodson had threatened the witness with a gun. The woman then fell from the window and landed on the ground.

Dodson waived his Miranda rights and said in a police statement that he and the victim had a romantic relationship. The man said he is disabled and she takes care of him. He also said she abused him physically and verbally, neglects him and takes advantage of him by taking his money. He sleeps with a knife under his pillow to protect himself.

The fight broke out after an argument over the woman wanting to use the car. Dodson refused to let her because she does not have a driver’s license. Dodson said the woman approached him with a gun while he was lying in bed, so he grabbed his knife in self-defense.

She dropped the gun, and he picked it up. He says he shot more than four times. The woman climbed into the bathroom and tried to get out the window. Her leg was stuck in the window, but Dodson didn't help.  Dodson says he was going to attempt suicide by cop when police arrived, but officers talked him out of it.

Dodson is a Missouri convicted felon.
