KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A man was shot to death in Kansas City Kansas' urban core Sunday morning, feet away from families who live at the Gateway Plaza Town Homes.

Police started investigating the homicide shortly after it happened around 8:50 a.m. at 1500 N. 5th Street.

Neighbors tell 41 Action News they heard about 10 gunshots.

"That happened right here, with my kids. That's not safe," said Iveya Reed, who has a set of 5-year-old twins and a 9-year-old son.
Investigators said the black man was shot to death in a white car, the shooter likely in front or to the side of the vehicle.

"That man looked like he was trying to get out of the scene," said Reed, who actually heard the gunfire.  "See I thought it was thunder.  I come out here and a man is dead."

Police went door to door to talk with neighbors.

"Our investigators are working, canvasing the area - who was in the car, what happened. We will go from there," said Officer Jonathon Westbrook of KCK Police.

Officers did not provide a suspect description.

Reed hopes the killer is caught and for a positive change in her community.

"I hope people stay to theyself and pray," said Reed.
