KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 17-year-old was shot and killed Wednesday night at an Overland Park apartment complex, police said.
Officers were called out to the 8000 block of Farley Street just before 10:30 p.m. on an armed disturbance.
Police found the 17-year-old boy, identified as Ben Workman of Overland Park, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
His mother, Amy Workman, said her son had only lived in the apartment complex for a few weeks. She brought him groceries on Wednesday and cooked for him at his apartment before he died.
“I lost my life yesterday, I feel like,” Amy Workman said Thursday. “He was my beautiful boy and someone took him away from me. He was everything to me.”
She said her son was a “beautiful, young man” with a “wonderful heart.”
“I am just begging for anyone who knows anything please, please stand up because they took a beautiful young man away from a lot of people who loved him,” she said. “They took my heart, they took my life.”
