KANSAS CITY (MO) -- April is Sexual Assault Prevention Month, something of particular significance since the #MeToo movement.
A self-defense school in the metro, Warriors Academy KC, is keying into what they call “Warrior Krav Maga” to help teach women how to react if they are put in a vulnerable situation.
The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, or RAINN, believes someone in the US is sexually assaulted every 98 seconds. Its data also shows one in six women have been a victim to rape or attempted rape.
Warriors Academy KC has women’s only classes. Teachers tell 41 Action News if an attacker puts a hand on a woman, she should lock it into her and consider it her hand from then on. This makes it so an aggressor is unable to use it against her.
On the 21st the group held a fundraiser for the local women’s shelter Rose Brooks and raised about $1,000 for the organization and brought in roughly $3,000 in clothing and other items.
