KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A missing Independence woman’s vehicle and body was found in a ditch Wednesday morning along U.S. 40 in Blue Springs.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol Online Traffic Crash Report, Gillmore was traveling east on U.S. 40 near Southwest Lake Tapawingo Lane when her Kia Rio left the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, went airborne and struck several more trees before coming to rest in the ditch.

Deputies along with officers from the Independence and Lake Tapawingo police departments were investigating Gillmore’s disappearance before the vehicle was discovered shortly before 9:30 a.m.
