KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Students at a number of colleges across Kansas and Missouri have started petitions to cancel classes on Wednesday so they can attend the Chiefs' Super Bowl parade.

According to a spokesperson with change.org, online petitions have been created from students at Kansas State University, the University of Missouri, Pittsburg State University, Northwest Missouri State University, Missouri Western University, and the University of Central Missouri.

A central theme among the petitions is that students want the chance to show their support and give back to the Chiefs.

“The team never gave up. This perseverance by both the team and fans was well rewarded when they brought KC the unforgettable win in Super Bowl LIV,” the petition for Northwest Missouri State University reads. “They fought for the fans, it’s time that the fans return the favor and be there for them.”

The petition for Kansas State, which has more than 6,500 signatures, says that students should have the chance "to attend this once in a lifetime opportunity."

"Us students care about our classes and don't want to have to skip, but we also don't want to miss this opportunity to celebrate our amazing city and team!" the petition reads.

In the Kansas City metro, every school district canceled classes on Wednesday, as well as the University of Missouri — Kansas City.
