Republican candidates and elected lawmakers are responding to Donald Trump’s lewd 2005 comments caught on tape.
In Kansas:
Governor Sam Brownback -
"The passage of time does not change the unacceptable language used by Donald Trump. While he has apologized, his statements remain demeaning, inappropriate and unacceptable."
Congressman Kevin Yoder -
"As a father to two daughters I found these remarks disgusting and offensive and he was right to apologize."
Senator Jerry Moran -
Disgusting, discouraging and damaging. Everyone is worthy of being treated with dignity and respect.

Senator Pat Roberts -
"The comments by Mr. Trump are abhorrent. I am glad he has apologized, and it will be up to him to work to earn the trust of the American people on November 8."
In Missouri:
Senator Roy Blunt -
Donald Trump's statements were disrespectful and inappropriate, and he was right to apologize.

Gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens -
Donald Trump's words were disgusting and wrong. There is no defense of them.
— Eric Greitens (@EricGreitens) October 8, 2016
Attorney General candidate Josh Hawley -
"Donald Trump's comments as reported tonight are shocking, repulsive, and utterly indefensible. They are an affront to every American. He should issue an unconditional apology to those involved, and to the American people."
Nationally, federally elected republicans are distancing themselves from the party's nominee, some going as far as calling for Trump to step down from the nomination.
