Missouri Governor-elect Eric Greitens is vowing to take action after two officers in Missouri got shot on the same day.

“In the face of this violence, we must take action,” said Greitens in a statement.

A St. Louis officer was shot in the face following an ambush Sunday morning, and a Gladstone officer was shot after a traffic stop. Both officers are expected to survive.

Greitens presented two pieces of legislation he will push for when he becomes Governor.

“In the year ahead, my administration will push for the strictest possible punishments for anyone who assaults a police officer,” said Greitens.

Greitens’ team could not be reached to elaborate, but Kansas City FOP President Brad Lemon says the Missouri legislature could follow Louisiana’s footsteps and move to make assaulting a police officer a hate crime.

Greitens said in his statemet he “will also work with the legislature to establish a “Blue Alert” system, similar to Amber and Silver Alerts, that would send out emergency notices to speed up the capture of anyone who shoots a police officer.”
