While so many students are enjoying summer break at the pool or at home playing video games; a group of Kansas City youths are spending part of their summer in class learning about science, technology, engineering and math.
The a-STEAM Village is a non-profit organization at 1601 E. 18th Street in Kansas City, inspiring youth to pursue education and careers in STEM fields.
Six students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and one Harvard University student spent 2 days this week at a-STEAM Village. The college students are biking across the country and their tour will end in San Francisco, California. Along the route, they stop at STEM workshops and share their expertise.
"The Kansas City students are bright and good listeners," said Masha Karelina, an MIT graduate.
The students got hands-on experience with chemistry, math, robotics and engineering. Karelina hopes the students will remember what they learned and remember that science and math is fun.
