KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City is in for a stormy Monday.

Area residents likely woke up to thunder and lightning early in the morning. The rain and storms were mostly north of Interstate 70 and are expected to continue throughout the day.

Afternoon thunderstorms will likely be more scattered.

The rain will cool off the temperatures in the area, keeping them in the low 80s.

Heavy thunderstorms and flash flooding are possible Monday night.

Flood warnings were also issued for St. Joseph and northern Clay County lasting until 10:30 a.m.

The City of Smithville was included in that warning and said around 8:45 a.m. that streets were already flooding from the volume of rain.

Kansas City drivers should remember to watch for areas of high water and avoid driving through any.

There were no major power outages reported associated with the storm as of 5:15 a.m.
