KANSAS CITY, Mo. — More than 30 medical marijuana dispensaries have been approved for licenses in the Kansas City, Missouri, area.

The Missouri department of Health and Senior Services announced Friday it had begun issuing 192 licenses statewide.

No more than 24 dispensaries could legally be licensed in each of Missouri's eight congressional districts, DHSS said.

“We are committed to making medical marijuana safe and accessible for qualified patients of Missouri,” Lyndall Fraker, director of the DHSS Section for Medical Marijuana Regulation, said in a news release. “This phase of program implementation is vital to product accessibility for Missourians throughout the entire state.”

41 Action News combed through the list of approved dispensary licensees and found 39 in the Kansas City area.

Earlier in January, DHSS issued licenses for cultivation facilities and manufacturing.
